THE HOME TEXTILE TOOL MUSEUM offers an immersive, living history-style experience of home textile production and rural life in America during the early 1800s.

The Historic Property and Collection — The 4.5-acre property encompassing the Home Textile Tool Museum includes a Federal-style house, an English Threshing Barn, Bill Ralph’s Tool Building, the Museum’s entrance building, a chicken coop, a woodshed, and various gardens. The property swells with the museum’s extensive collection of nineteenth-century tools and artifacts, including home textile tools such as looms and spinning wheels, a foot-powered woodworking lathe, and a Gutenberg-style printing press. The Federal house offers space for fiber art exhibits and an upstairs reference library.



The Scenic Drive and Location — You’ll enjoy the short but scenic drive from PA Route 6 through Bradford County’s rolling hills to get to the tiny hilltop village of Orwell and the Home Textile Tool Museum. These directions make it easy…



Directions from US Route 6 in Bradford County: Take PA 187 north from Wysox. Go 12 miles. Turn right onto Orwell Hill Road (SR 1036). Go 2 miles up the hill. Park in the lot across the street from the church.



Hands-On Fun — The museum’s founder, William Ralph, believed strongly that old tools were to be used – not simply admired. Museum visitors are invited to get hands-on and learn to spin and weave using tools once used by regional ancestors.
