The 1.3-mile Rimrock Trail offers a scenic hike through the Allegheny National Forest, leading visitors from Kinzua Beach to Rimrock Overlook. Most hikers can expect the trail to take about 1 to 1½ hours to complete.

Along the way, the trail winds through a heavily forested area dominated by oak trees. The acorns produced here provide an important food source for local wildlife, including bear, deer, grouse, and turkey.

The majority of the trail is fairly level with a gradual change in elevation. As you climb away from Kinzua Beach, the trail becomes steeper, leading to the overlook area. During the winter season, the access road from State Route 59 is designated as a cross-country ski trail.

At Rimrock Overlook, hikers are rewarded with outstanding views of the Allegheny Reservoir and the surrounding hillsides. The overlook area also features giant sandstone boulders, crevasses, and rock outcrops. Stone steps with a handrail allow visitors to climb up and explore the rock formations safely.

The overlook provides sweeping views of Kinzua Bay, which extends southwest from the main body of the Allegheny Reservoir. From the parking area, visitors descend approximately 200 feet in elevation via steps that lead down to the viewing area.
