The Co-Op Farmer’s Market, in Scranton, PA, is the only open-air market of its kind in NE Pennsylvania. The market’s success for over 81 years (since 1939!) can be attributed to the fact that they are strictly a grow-your-own market, bringing fresh foods direct from farms to you!
“Experience the touch of the country as you browse down the midway at The Co-Operative Farmer’s Market every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00 to 6:00 pm. The Co-Operative Farmer’s Market offers a wide variety of seasonal home-grown fresh-picked fruits, vegetables, baked goods, jams and jellies, meats, eggs, fresh-cut and potted flowers.
The early roots of The Co-Operative Farmer’s Market date back to August 1, 1939, with the opening ceremonies beginning at 4:00 pm at the Scranton Athletic Field Parking Lot (now Memorial Stadium). A group of farmers from the Mifflin Avenue Curb Market wanted to relocate because of overcrowding conditions, so they ventured out and formed The Co-Operative Farmer’s Market. The newly formed Co-Operative Farmer’s Market was warmly supported by hundreds of people.”
