SIGNATURE BIKE LOOP 5

Signature Loop 5 – The Endless Mountains

Ride this loop and you’ll quickly see we named it “The Endless Mountains.” This region of the state is aptly named, as riders will experience some tough climbs, but the splendid scenery makes it all worthwhile.

Begin this loop in Vosburg State Park, in an oxbow of the North Branch of the Susquehanna River known as Vosburg Neck. This 669-acre park offers a plethora of hiking trails and historical buildings from the 1700s and 1800s, and includes a cemetery from the 1700s. The park is open every day of the year, from sunrise to sunset, and day use areas close at dusk. Keep this in mind when planning your ride. If planning an overnight stay, you may want to begin this loop at Schaffer’s Riverside Campground which is located not far from the entrance to Vosburg State Park.

Start out by taking a slight left onto Mountain Road and heading west. This loop starts with a heart-pounding climb up Mount Washington Road, peaking once you reach PA 87, where you’ll turn south and continue across the Susquehanna River. Bear right onto Scotsville Road where you’ll have a chance to gravel grind to State Route 3001. Turn left onto State Route 4002, right onto Fox Hollow Road, and continue straight onto Nimble Hill Road. After a left turn onto Farr Hollow Road and then left onto Creek Road, you’ll experience another up and down before reaching Mehoopany. Take a moment to catch your breath and gaze down at Mehoopany Creek before beginning a hellacious up and down. On the bright side, you’ll have a nice, peaceful ride along the Susquehanna River all the way to South Eaton.

After crossing the river at West Falls, enjoy a scenic ride up through some beautiful agricultural areas with expansive views of Wyoming County. Stop for a rest near scenic Lake Winola before tackling another grueling climb and quick descent into the Heritage Community of Tunkhannock for a bite to eat and some refreshments at Nimble Hill Winery & Brewery. After a little time to catch your breath, take Sunnyside Road to Lake Carey, circling the northern shore of the lake before crossing over Route 26 onto Lakewood Road.

The last leg of the trip begins with a left turn onto Bartron Road. Just when you thought the hard climbs were behind you, get ready for one more steep hill on Windswept Road. The reward is a pleasant, cool cruise clear back to Vosburg State Park.
